Great news for me not so good for Andy in Koh Toa.....He's working ...but Rachel is home with us for a few weeks ..................... this will give her time to progress her idea..scuba diving ladies at http://divingmaster.com ....she will give you her story.

This will help those of you who want to see an example of..... starting with an idea to full trading status; can monitor Rachel's business ( we have a 30 % stake in it ! ) Just check her site from time to time.....she has the "x" factor to make it a success ...if you dont check you will miss what she does..!

From TMI's stand point we now have a worker who will help us pull things together..especially the office protocol we will use in Mian Channu....( just a little insider information ..we can rent out part of our office space , because the building is huge )

BILLION DOLLAR STARTUPS ---------part .1.

So you want to use your great idea to ..a.. Change the world, and .. b.. Make some money ?

Well before you start to to do this ask your self.."Am i prepared to spend 1. 2 or even 5 years on this project ? Is there a market for the product or service i will offer ? How big is the market ? How will i will i sustain myself and team whilst building this world beater ? If you have a family do you have their support ? If not you are heading for a very stressful future !

These questions are important to answer because no matter how much you wish otherwise , day to day living goes on..and this must be catered for plus the extra pressure of doing some thing very different from the norm....to build a global company takes immense resolve and requires a certain type of personality to cope with all the range of problems to overcome if you would succeed.

It is not true to say anyone can build a business of their dreams...but if you have what it takes ,and there is only one way you can find out...get started and meet and beat each problem..
The mindset you need accepts that basically you are solving small problems as they come up so you can solve the big problem......

One great help is to find a mentor if you can...this often is very difficult at the start because you have no track record, why should a busy successful business person help you? .....

THE SECRET....find out what your chosen mentor needs and offer to give it to him/her...This often requires creativity....more on this in a future blog... ( finding a mentor )

To help get you started lets consider what criteria "billion dollar ideas " have to meet if they are
to change the world ( and they have to have such credentials to be seriously considered by the "money men "........ )
We will take "startup-poor.com" as an example .......................................... What's the big idea? ...."To help the 4 billion poor on the planet by getting the rich to gift the poor the means to generate revenue by connecting them to world markets "
There is no doubt there is a market there that wants help and above all to be given the dignity
to do it themselves ..... ( not given just food aid...welcome tho' that is .. )

To solve the problem of how help poor people enter world markets ,you need to give them free information in their own language; plus free internet access; plus, initially a mentor,
We are opening an office to give free internet access , then will supply free online and offline information on how to generate revenue from the internet...then later use that system to build offline businesses if required.
The mentors will come from trained individuals in the various charities..our first one is in Columbia...more on this as it comes on stream.....

In China the program will start with social entrepreneurs from the colleges..we have already started to do this ... they have a " best idea "challenge ..with a prize .

The obvious question now is " Where is the money to come from ? " Initially this will come from all entrepreneural students who are eco friendly and socially concerned ..these are local to our office in Mian Channu ;even though the basic internet marketing programs are free many will buy the more advanced marketing strategies and digital products , such as DVD's CD's and Video's.......... The increase in traffic will attract ad revenue...because ..having a base of student entrepreneurs , a % of whom will be very successful is the ideal market for banks ; internet marketing companies ; loan organisations etc..to target.

Obviously this will all take time but the foundation is there ..when you have a revenue generation stream you then roll out to other countries...We intend doing this partly by country specific blogs..
..eg startup-singapore ; startup -pakistan; startup-california.com.. startup-india.com.

So to sum up...........You need the right mind set.
Must have global reach.
The market must be ready for your product.
Find a mentor.
Build alliances
Build first class technology.... tmi is now building final version of test bed.
Get investors to monitor your project ..this builds a relationship, so they can see your progress, and are in a much better postion to understand your concept and your thinking process...and will be much more receptive to your request for early adoption.
Get an education in internet marketing.
Produce a marketing plan.

A..A blog giving information about a startup aiming to help all student entrepreneurs .

A..Information on some aspects of building our startup..which is partly the blogs .. "startup-asia ";" startup-california.com" and the website" testmyidea.com.".this is the test bed for business ideas with traffic fed to it from the country specific blog.

Q..How will it help other startups?

A.. By understanding what we did and how we did it..it can help save time and money..especially finding high quality team members..at little or nil cost..This is one of the most vital of all things to do ;if you do not have a good team you will almost certainly fail.

Q..But i am only going to have myself or one or two in the business !

A..Most businesses start with only one or two people..but if that's your limit..you are on the wrong site! We are setting a lead for entrepreneurs who are very ambitious and will want ultimately investment funding..

Q..What is so special about startup-poor.com ?

A.. We are aiming to do the impossible , which is to get investors to seriously consider the billion poor and gift them the means out of poverty.

Q.. That is impossible..investors are only interested in viable ideas with some valued asset!

A.. Yes! We did get the laptop..a top of the range"Toshiba"..with carrying case...This has now been handed over to M.Y. (my Pakistani business partner ) We will upload all the material needed for the Mian Channu computer center.. .more next blog...

News from China. .....our " creative" David there is running a competition for entrepreneural students for ideas we can test on TMI... This will be the first stage ..then we will send information on progressing the ideas... We might offer a money prize for the best idea.....

In California we are hoping to involve some of the students from Berkley University in TMI...
..We have offered editing and writing work in the blog.. We hope to have this finished in March..
There is now the possibility of further country specific blogs.....we have" Startup-Singapore.com"

In the UK we are bringing our two translators together..Meeting them at the Bangawli restaurant i described in an earlier blog....I need to find out if the contact in Dakha will translate the free starter into Urdu . Latest regards investors ..One stated he had tried the business model we are building but found it unsustainable , for economic reasons, .by this meaning if you have no traction (money ) And need to pay talented people to progress the business you are soon insolvent.. He further said: . ."If you can solve this you are a genius !"

Since he said that we may have thought of a strategy to solve the problem ..which is essentially . How to get talented people to work for little, or no money..over a few months whilst at beta stage .

See "creatives "link for a clue as to how it may be possible; we have yet to test this fully ;but it may work..The great thing is this: If we can build a team ..which is just about the most difficult thing there is to do ..a mastermind group with creative people who are immensly busy...........

Recently my wife told me of a new Indian restaurant in town; so i decided to take her out for a
meal..
It turns out it was not Indian but run by Bangladeshi's from Leeds, we had a great meal and as i was interested in a contact in Bangladesh i arranged a meeting with the three owners..
At the meeting i suggested ways they could increase their customer base and use an upstairs room...plus negotiated a discount for all the customers who presented their business card signed
by me..
I needed a Bengali translator for startup-asia and asked them if they could help..Yes ,they could; then i asked if they had contacts in the IT area..Again ,yes they had..one of the owners brothers has a computer shop in Dhaka..a city with good internet connections.
We will see how this contact develops...but there is a lesson here for all budding entrepreneurs,
and that is, never be afraid to use the three letter word if you are seeking help...; you may not always get a yes in reply; but if you don't ask it will always be a no.

Every successful entrepreneur has asked for something and in some cases got it....Google for
example asked for $25 million to progress their search engine which at the time had not made
a cent...They got the money and the investor made a profit...

In researching the "experts " in internet marketing one notices a common factor that is never
mentioned........ the real secret of the Guru's...They are successful because they do certain things ..like build a large list of loyal customers, produce a brilliant product; get other people to
sell for them.. (afilliate programs ) etc..etc..

They then sell you what they have done ( but not fully ) You try it..no success .why ?why ?
why? Then it dawns on one..They say."I did it you can ." Maybe; but if you are successful you have the secret too ! You have CREATIVE INTELLIGENCE...some have it more than others..but success is in direct proportion to the amount you have .

Let us suggest the way forward when TMI is on stream and set to startup the rural poor.

1......Realistically in a village setting of 300 only 30 would be interested enough to fully engage (this is different than saying all would like to try out the system ).....even 10 would be sufficient...They in practice form the local" mastermind "group to encourage one another.
2....10 would be sufficient because the ultimate selling is to western markets....this means if , initially, revenue is only £100 per month - rupees 11,000( a low figure by western standards ) by local standards it will make a difference ,and as the revenue increases it would have a cascading effect...
3.A realistic way to start the first pilot project would be for an experienced student to help
by leading the, "on the fly" workshops ..using the enterprise education work sheets supplied online from TMI ....this until the local mastermind group takes over the project with the responsibility to extend the involvement to as many as possible....
4.. The use of internet enabled mobiles / or the £100 computers/ or initially just mobiles
would be sufficient technology to start the project...........more on using mobiles alone in a future blog.......

The trend is there...
.. recent great increase in mobile phone usage..

.. free internet access ..
.. free eco enterprise education..$43 trillion investment money is now available for sustainable businesses...as public opinion and the "greening"of political parties , is starting a trend that will accelerate.

This means there is now the realistic possibility of slowing the rush from the country to the cities....as the means and connection to global markets can be realised via the internet...
We simply need now the strategies and administrative protocols... this is our current concern
as well as the need from this generation of graduates to be as concerned for the careers of the poor ...as their own..and a decision to support projects that can bring this about.

The future of the poor is much more tied up with the future of the rich then perhaps all of us
realise......

DREAM OR DREAM ON ???

Every startup starts with a dream idea..mine is to build a huge educational platform for the benefit of the poorest people on the planet..my first idea was to put up a website entitled...........
"Rubbish tip people.".Inspired by a picture of a small child on a huge rubbish hill....her work was to find rags as a" product"to sell for food for the day....no rags..no food.

On the face of it my dream is impossible..make money and give it to the poor..that's the way to help..?.Many charities do this ..... but there are still more poor today than at any time in history..
The answer must be to give the poor the means to generate wealth themselves..but how can this be done? What have the poor got that has sufficent value the rich markets would want?

Then it hit me .......They have the same ability to think ..come up with ideas as anyone else........
What they don't have is a means of realising those ideas.....nothing to enable them to understand ideas can be realised if the way is known and encouragement is given...

Realistically though you cannot expect an immediate breakthough without a focal point and the presentation of the means..........this brings us to.. testmyidea.com ...This is my testbed for the dream............ It offers ..free webspace to anyone rich or poor....free information..in the form of reports and work manuals the free starter is already online...

Now comes the most difficult part how to start it" running"with the potential to help the poor
Keep in mind the poor cannot afford to pay anything to start....they may be miles from internet access and even if available they may only have a vague idea how to use their assets...
There has to be a go between...a mentor from somewhere....will these vital links appear?
This currently is the biggest problem to overcome....i am trying to find these starters at colleges and universities in Pakistan.... To get these involved in the project they will need incentives..?

We are starting to build a Chinese version of testmyidea.com..This will involve a team of translators ,from whom we will select a management team to run an office in China and market to the young of China...see the "China project", on the business plan.

All people can more easily read their native language than a foreign one and TMI long term view is to build a number of versions in various languages..we have the contacts to translate into 167 !

We are now seeking IT team member for a trial to see if he/she fits TMI and has our vision..

A number have replied but not one has followed the ad instructions.which said in part "no attachments "

We are keen to find a local techie..the one we had as got a proper job..full time paid...! We are offering an internship for three months to find out if he/she will take on board our vision..This is vital for a startup to be launched in April 2008....

The fact is only someone really interested will run with us for the basic wage if they believe in the project....They will read the free report on testmyidea and the website text and looked at all the ideas on TMI..to get a background idea of the project..so he/she can be interviewed with confidence......
We are getting a number of people to have their photo taken wearing the TMI .".T" Shirt...

One of the most difficult problems to solve for any startup is .".How to build a team with the expertise needed without having the resources to fund "experts ".
The following experience may give you some ideas to help solve your "skill problem "

I read an article in a local Journal ..relating the retirement of a local headteacher...It included
words like "..looking for new challenges..possible voluntary work, interest and experience of teaching in Pakistan....."
I underlined all the words relating to her desires for the future...they matched almost exactly
the type of person i needed to help take testmyidea to the next value level.. ( keep in mind investors are monitoring TMI and at some point an investor will see that it is a viable proposition and will offer to fund )
I requested a meeting at which we discussed her future plans and how TMI could help her realise them...At a subsequent meeting Hilary said: "I will come on board !"

We are delighted ..we will be inporting images of team members soon ..this is very important as
quality team members are the key to getting funding and increasing the chances of success..and
images give a stronger indication than words that you really have added value to your startup

Our next step in team recruitment is to find a webmaster ( Our founder techie is working for another company... )
